Iran is ready to reinitiate nuclear talks with the United States as long as it is handled with "dignity" and "honor", Tehran's foreign minister has declared.

The Iranian diplomat declared only diplomacy worked, and shared new appeals had originated from mediators to resume negotiations with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran possessed no secret atomic facilities, and Tehran was not yet able to allow the UN nuclear inspectorate to access attacked atomic facilities for protective measures.

Walking a Difficult Route

The foreign minister is treading a challenging path since Iran wishes not to be perceived to be operating from a stance of disadvantage, and he consistently maintained that Iran had emerged stronger defensively and psychologically from the coordinated strike on its nuclear sites in June.

He was speaking at a security conference in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an inalienable right to refine atomic fuel within its borders that it will always maintain" – the primary cause of the deadlock in the previous talks.

Earlier Talks Suddenly Concluded

The earlier sessions of discussions between the United States and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and bitter termination on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, attacked Tehran's atomic facilities in a fortnight-long engagement that culminated with Donald Trump claiming the sites had been destroyed. Afterward, European countries used their privilege to reinstate international penalties, but Iran insists they have not had a major impact.

Ideal Resolution Offered

Tehran representatives said they felt they had attained a "perfect agreement" to the uranium processing matter in prior discussions, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with US participation could process nuclear material. Both sides would have been able to declare success since home-based processing would have remained and the US could be confident that Iran's enrichment initiative was solely for peaceful purposes.
